Eat, work, sleep then repeat! This was the routine for scores of people in England throughout time. Such was likely the case for Ann Spaven (born Beilby) who lived in Yorkshire and died in 1877. She had a large family with her husband William Spaven and since he worked as a ‘farm labourer’ in the 1800’s, life was surely hard.
As we see in the picture, Ann lost her right index finger at some time, which was a nasty turn of events for her. Having a picture of Ann is sweet because most people back then didn’t have any such thing. The story is a newspaper transcription of her demise in February 1877. Creating some awareness about her life is a step to ensure that her memory survives.
