In todays blog, we travel back in time to Oct 16 1806, to the east end of London. The Trinity House records for that day indicaed that my ancestor Francis Hinderwell the younger, was added as a licensed Channel Pilot on that day. It was an incredible accomplishment for Francis as the position of a ‘pilot’ was to be taken seriously since it involved navigating a sailing ship through the River Thames of London. The position involved great sailing and navigational skills!
As the image showed in todays blog, Francis Hinderwell lived at 6 King Edward street, when he was listed in 1810. Now, when we come forward in time to 1888, another very interesting fact unfolded! The 1888 Will of Emma Adell Hampsheir (Gillet) gave the same ‘6 King Edward street’ address as porperty she held. Her late husband was the grandson of Francis Hinderwell, aforementioned. This development leads to speculation that the house had been in the family for about 80 years!
