All of us who are parents, at times, have dealt with some misery, that our children were responsible for. To our credit as parents, we overcome and love our children unconditionally.
Then at times a situation evolves when a parent outlives their child. Such was the case where my great grandparents, John S and Mary Angell, managed to outlive two of their three children. Their only daughter, ‘Lizzie’ died at the age of 14 from Scarlet Fever. Their younger son, ‘Albert’ also died before they did at age 59 of a heart attack.
The loss of two children was a horrible reality for John and Mary to endure and some how, even at their advanced ages, they managed to live through it. Such is testimony to their depth of character and power of endurance. We can only imagine the heartbreak associated with it.
