Richard Owston of Bridlington and latterly Scarborough, Yorkshire was my 5X great grandfather. I can’t prove it but I suspect he started his maritime career as a ship’s boy, married the bosses daughter and ended up as a Gentleman by the time he passed away in 1804.
Richard Owston Ship Owner
He and his wife, Mary Dale tried twice to name a son ‘John Dale’ Owston. This heavily suggests he was the son in law of a ‘John Dale’. Historically there were several Dale family member living beside Richard where he grew up at Bridlington, Yorkshire. Richard was connected to at least 5 different ships as we see in the list. He was also president of Scarborough trinity House in 1794. He’ll surface again in more blogs going forward.
