How to identify an ancestor!

ward Our Family & Me Team

My 5th great grandfather in my direct paternal line has been a challenge to figure out. In 1823, he was addresed as John ‘Angel’ in both his Will and burial information at Hutton Buscel, Yorkshire. As I searched for his origins, it was clear that he wasn’t native to Hutton Buscel. Deep research led me to Kirkby Malham, about 80 miles away, in West Yorkshire. In John’s life he had 3 people close to him pass away, his elder sister mary, his first wife Elizabeth and his second wife, ‘Hannah’. John married for a 3rd time, when he lived at Hutton Buscel to a widow named Ann Bulmer (Chester). With Ann, he named his 3 daughters, Mary, Elizabeth and Hannah! The naming pattern established his community of origin.

John had an elder brother, 'George' who was born in February 1735 and later, a grandson 'George' in February 1804
