For this blog, we go back in time to 1676 and the Foston by Malton, Yorkshire church. The Minister left a footnote in the baptismal entries that applied to my ancestor, Richard Spaven. Such a development was very unusual for the Minister was speaking to some event that deviated from his normal process of entering Richard’s baptism. He noted that the baptismal entry had ‘not been put down in its proper place’. Then he stated that he used information from Richard’s parents in good faith to note the ‘November 19 1676’ baptism of Richard. Learning of this sort of anomaly in old records is only accomplished by being diligent in the research process.
