In 2011 I shared a copy of this picture with some friends from Dymchurch, Kent. All along, I was fairly sure that the man in this picture was my mother’s father, Leonard J Hunt. Previously, it was shared with me that the coarse small stones in the picture were typical of beaches in southern England.
I wondered about the clothing that the subject was wearing and the feedback I received was most encouraging. It was reported that the costume was that of a London dock worker! Interestingly, grandpa Hunt worked as a ‘tally clerk’ in the docks of east London and the costume was very suitable for such an employee. This story establishes the value of seeking opinions of others.
