In 1619 a widow from Ashford, Kent, Alice Beard, left her last Will and testament. Alice was the sister of Thomasine Hunt (Day) who was my 9X great grandmother.
It seemed like Alice died without issue (children of her own) so she kindly bequeathed her riches to some servants, the poor of Ashford, as well as her nieces and nephews.
Presumably, Alice didn’t play favourites, however she left 20 pounds to her nephew Robert Hunt (my 8X great grandfather) and such would help get him off to a good start in his young life (b1605). The other gifts that Alice left were only in shillings, which really increased the value of her kindness to Robert!
When Robert was an adult, there’s no evidence that he ever named any of his daughters ‘Alice’, which is a shame as his aunt of the same name, helped get him off to a good future.
