My 5X great grandfather, Patrick Barry had an exceptionally interesting life. The 1811 land application told of his origin in Ennis County, Ireland and that in 1760, he adventured his way to Colonial America. Further details claimed that he was successful and even ‘affluent’ in the mercantile trade! Unfortunately, his ‘loyalty’ to the English Crown cost him dearly as he lost his enterprise in Rhode Island at the onset of the American Revolution. Later in the Rebellion, he operated a packet boat for the British in Prince Edward Island. Eventually, Patrich made his way to Upper Canada (Ontario) where he lived as a farmer and raised a family with his wife Deborah.
