The parish record notations are ‘rare’ but extremely interesting when they surface! This Hutton Buscel, Yorkshire notation from 1748 is the account of a local disaster! From what was most likely an outbreak of hoof and mouth disease, came some coverage from the church minister. He noted that more than two thirds of the ‘horned cattle’ perished. However, all was not lost and in April it stopped. This notation is a true gem for the researcher and historian. (Just imagine how devastated the local farmers were to have lost more than 2/3rds of their cattle)?
