Todays blog examines a newspaper quote of my ancestor Charles Sansam. On November 19 1909, Charles sat in the jail at Waukegan, Illinois and wanted to play a ‘chip’ he supposedly had to gain his freedom. Charles claimed that he had the ‘secret of perpetual motion’ and would surrender it if he was released from jail. Sadly, for Charles he remained in jail and there’s no solution for Newton’s law of perpetual motion to this day. One has to feel sorry for Charles as he clearly had more issues than enough.
