I had many branches of ancestors who long ago lived at Lenham, Kent, England. The occupations these ancestors held were varied and personally, I always enjoy learning the occupations that my ancestors had. I feel that detail helps provide substance in understanding what their lives were like. For todays blog, the occupation was that of a Taylor and from William Cooper and his son Robert and grandson Henry all plied that trade. Going back somewhat in the lineage, we see William’s great grandfather, Francis Stransham the younger was a ‘Clothier’. In principle, a Clothier and a Taylor, were very similar and both trades typically provided well for the artisan.
Learning of the similar occupations covering a span of time from the mid 1500’s into the 1780’s and the end of Henry Coopers life, was quite the rush!
