In Saskatchewan, June 19th is ‘Loyalist Day’ and this comes with significance that not many people know. Historically, the Loyalists had lived in Colonial America during the Revolutionary War, 1776 – 1783. Since the Loyalists remained ‘loyal’ to the English King George 3rd, they paid a steep price! Many of them were expelled from the States and my two branches came to New Brunswick to re-settle. They left their homes, farms and businesses behind, being stripped of the wealth and property. Such losses in the name of loyalty to the crown are hard to comprehend today! The loyalists, for the most part, were the earliest non French settlers in what would become Canada. Happy Loyalist Day!
