My 2X great grandfather was Charles Sansam. He’s one ancestor that I have studied in great detail and ‘yes’ one can get to know somebody who is long gone (he died in 1932). Charles had one ‘hellish’ mid life crisis as he and his wife separated and he propogated his own ‘crazy’ religion. In the early 1900’s Charles was both imprisoned for ‘adultery’ and committed to the state mental hospital in Elgin, Illinois for his sanity. All totalled between the asylum and jail, he was incarcerated for 7 – 8 years. One of his more bizaar claims was that he was going to have 144,000 wives! As if that wasn’t a crazy enough claim to make, it meant he’d have 144,000 mother in law’s too!!
