Circa 1907, my 2X great grandfather, John Angel 1819 – 1909, left his home in Owen Sound, Ontario. Life’s infirmities were tightening their grip on him and it was decided that he should go and live with his daughter Ann Hambley at Swan Lake, Manitoba. Family folklore told of him guarding the carrots in the garden and contributing to life in other ways.
Swan Lake historian, George Hambley, mentioned old John in his writing about the history of the village. The story is very touching and sad as we read about old John and his dog.
