Part of the joy connected to researching your family is meeting distant cousins and fellow ‘detectives’! One such turn of events created a head scratching puzzle. My 2X great grandfather John Angel 1819-1909 was alledged to have ‘sold’ his eldest daughter, Ann Angel, into marriage in 1870. At least this was the claim of a researcher I met many years ago (she’s passed away for some years now). Naturally, there’s no documents to ‘prove’ her claim but,,,,,, take a look at the October 1870 marriage document. Ann Angel, aged 18 (more like scarcely 16) married Thomas Parrott age 54!! So,,,,, was the marriage done for love or was there some skulduggery afoot?
