An ongoing issue in studying really old Kent parish records is handwriting and along with that ‘spelling’. I’ve made a screenshot about the evolution o a surname, ‘Fissenden’ that morphed its way to being ‘Lushngton’. Over a family attending a parish church, they might have had several church ministers make entries into the records. There wasn’t standardized spelling and each of the scribes entered the surname as they felt it should be spelled. That’s how you end up with ‘Lushington’ from ‘Fissenden’.
