Todays blog reinforces the value of being thorough with research. The image we’re using is the Nov 22 1602 marriage of Robert Hunt of Ashford, Kent and Thomasine Day of Bennenden, Kent. The marriage was solemnized with a license rather than the traditional ‘banns’.
Now there’s one letter (V) that was situated behind Thomasine’s name. A lone, solitary letter ‘v’ seems quite trivial, doesn’t it? However, that lone letter ‘v’ meant Thomasine was a virgin! At this time her husband Robert Hunt was a widower with 4 children. Historically, Thomasine was born in 1564, so she was ‘38’ at the time of her marriage.
Thomasine and Robert Hunt only had a son Robert’ in early 1605, so she was about 40 when she had her first and only child. Going forward, a future blog will shed more light on the life of Thomasine Hunt and her son Robert.
This younger Robert is my 8X great grandfather.
