I have an interesting blog today about family folklore. Typically, if I asked him, dad was good to answer my questions about the old aspect of the family. Dad’s contention was that his grandfather, John Spaven Angell, was born ‘on the boat coming over from England’. Well, the old Angel family Bible can shed some light as we see in the picture. It says that John was born at Duffin’s Creek in Pickering Township, Ontario and it also said that ‘Betsey’ (John’s sister) was born on ‘shipboard’ in 1857. The best take-away here about family folklore, is to be sure and verify what the claim might be. Folklore is typically rooted in some fact from the past but one is wise to check it out.
