By 1882 my 4X great grandfather, Joseph Sansam was an elderly man for his time as he was 79 years old. His wife Elizabeth had died in 1880 and he lived alone in Derbyshire, England. For the most part his children were adults and occupied with their own lives and the daughters he was closest to, Elizabeth Pepper and Sarah Fisher were far away in Canada. To show their concern for their elderly father Sarah and her son escorted her father from England to Canada. This move set their minds at ease that their father could be taken care of in his old age. The snippet is of their names in the migration document. Old Joseph Sansam lived out the balance of his days in the Manitoulin Islands, Ontario and he was buried in 1887 at Big Lake cemetery.
