In 1865, my 3x great grandfather, William Kerr, a widower, married for a second time. The inception of civic records took place in 1837 in England and as such created a new perspective in research. A civic marriage certificate provided many new details to aid in research. These included ages, occupations, address of the participants and the names and occupations of their fathers. This was HUGE, especially for William. By knowing his father’s name and occupation, much more research could be conducted and details learned. Going forward, we’ll visit this branch again in another blog.
