This July 16 1847 marriage certificate between William Beswick Hampsheir and Emma Adell Gillet, provides a wealth of information. It gave their ages (sometimes it does say how many years) William’s occupation, a musician, their father’s names and occupations as well. William Thomas Hampsheir was a builder in London’s East End and Joseph Gillet had a bakery at Anchor & Hope Alley. The witnesses were John and Jane Mary Cocksedge (charming surname) who were Emma’s sister and her husband.
