It was a ‘rush’ of a discovery on the day when I learned that I was descended from a Knight named Solomon Hougham! Solomon never had his name become famous in his 43 years (1475 – 1518) but he represented a special place in history. For a man to be recognized as a ‘knight’ meant he would have been through the procedure and ceremony of being ‘knighted’ by the King! In Solomon’s era he’d have been knighted by either King Henry 7th or King Henry the 8th (the detail is unclear). All things considered, I feel quite good to know about such an interesting ancestor. Solomon Hougham is memorialized in a stain glass window at the parish church at Ash, Kent. (he is the second from the left).
